Printmaking program

“The Printmaking Department is one of the greatest facets of the NHIA community. Their high-quality facilities and equipment allow students to collaborate, experiment and make artistic discoveries. As a place where students from all disciplines come together to create, the Printmaking department empowers and inspires students to make an impact. When students join Millennial Press, a for-students, by -students letterpress shop, they make, sell and market their artwork, organize fundraisers and help develop the department. As a founding member, Millennial Press is one of my favorite parts of the program and it is exciting to see it evolve. What truly makes the department, though, is the amazing faculty. They are our mentors, career advisors, and friends. Since graduation, the skills I’ve developed in printmaking classes have played a crucial role in my creative practice.” sam Kelly, Fine Arts, Class of 2016

NHIA BFA Fine Arts

NHIA’s Printmaking major offers you a unique opportunity to work in both contemporary and historical methods simultaneously. From screen prints designed on your laptop to 15th century etching and lithography techniques, you’ll develop an arsenal of tools through which you can express yourself. Create a zine in the letterpress studio, carve a large format woodblock for printing, explore series and variation through monotype and partner with other students in the other department on community projects, or try your hand at working with clients through Millennial Press. Throughout your studies, our faculty of working print artists will shape your artistic practice long after graduation.

Each of our programs are flexible, career-focused and innovative. With more electives, a focus on professional practice, a broad education including liberal arts and sciences, and a partnership with UNH Manchester, NHIA provide artists, writers and designers the freedom to explore within and beyond their major, to think and make in innovative ways, and to be in tune with the professional demands of both current and future careers in art and design. This is education tailored to your goals!
