TRANSFER STUDENTS AND TRANSFER CREDIT POLICIES
Here at the New Hampshire Institute of Art (NHIA), you will be surrounded by like-minded individuals who are interested in continuing their education in an immersive studio and liberal arts environment. Many of the students who transfer to NHIA already have an emerging practice in art, writing or design. At NHIA, not only will you be supported by our nationally recognized faculty, but also by your peers. Through our admissions and transfer credit evaluation processes, we will assist you in merging your past academic and studio experiences with our curriculum.
As a new student, you may be eligible to transfer up to a maximum of 60 credit hours (30 credits in liberal arts and 30 credits in studio art or writing) that would be applied to our 120 credit hour BFA program. Only coursework that receives a grade of “C” or better will considered for assessment. A preliminary transfer credit evaluation will be shared with you soon after you have been admitted to NHIA.
Transfer Policies for Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate(IB), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and College Credit Earned in High School
NHIA will accept a maximum of 24 credit hours from AP, IB or/and CLEP examinations towards a BFA degree. AP scores of 3 or higher will be awarded 3 credit hours per subject. NHIA will grant 6 college credits for an IB score of 5 at the Higher Level (HL). For the general CLEP exam, you will receive 6 credit hours for a minimum score of 421. You must receive a score equivalent to a “C” or better for each CLEP subject area exam. We will also accept Pre-College and Dual Enrollment coursework with a grade of “C” or better from all accredited colleges and universities.
Please note: Official transcripts with all potential transferable credit must be received prior to the semester you plan to begin your studies at NHIA.
NHIA has articulation agreements with Great Bay Community College, Hudson Valley Community College, Lakes Region Community College, Manchester Community College, and Southern Maine Community College.
NHIA is both regionally and nationally accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
