Sharon Arts Center collaborates with the MacDowell Colony for Medal Day 2009
SAC Volunteers help artist John Bisbee and Wade Kavanaugh with an installation
PETERBOROUGH, NH - Sharon Arts Center (SAC) is collaborating with The MacDowell Colony through a volunteer effort to help artist John Bisbee and Wade Kavanaugh with an installation for Medal Day 2009, held on Sunday, August 9th. Bisbee and Kavanaugh, sculptors from Maine and New York, have designed a sculpture that will be installed from Wednesday through Saturday the week before Medal Day.

"We're so pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to our students, volunteers, faculty, staff and artists," said Melanie McDonald, director of education at Sharon Arts. "To have the chance to work with two well-known sculptors and recent colonists is a rare one, and also gives participants a chance to meet other artists in the community and be a part of this important day."

Volunteers will be "planting" metal, working with galvanized steel, and doing light construction. Volunteers of all levels of strength, ability and experience will be participating in this collaboration. The group will be working during the week from Wednesday through Saturday, and several people will assist at the event itself.

Sharon Arts has had a long-standing relationship with The MacDowell Colony. They have welcomed SAC's Teen ArtAccess program to visit with colonists for several years. For more information on Sharon Arts and upcoming events and exhibitions, visit www.sharonarts.org.
