Sharon Arts Fine Craft Gallery features the work of Carol Travers Lummus, etching artist, during the month of March

PETERBOROUGH, NH --- Sharon Arts Fine Craft Gallery and Store in Depot Square is pleased to present Carol Travers Lummus as featured artist for the month of March. Lummus, a Barnstable Massachusetts resident, is second generation Cape Codder and twelfth-generation New Hampshire native. Previously, she was a long-time resident of Milford, New Hampshire. Sharon Arts, a non-profit arts organization that's committed to connecting the community with the arts, created the "Featured Artist of the Month" program to showcase a local artist and their work, and to educate the public about their artistic process.

Lummus has released more than three hundred editions of her prints since she purchased her first etching press in 1974. Since then she has populated the world with a compelling characters, most of whom were inspired by her teachers and from the more graceful world of yesterday. In 1983, Sharon Arts was the first gallery to show her work. Through the years, she has received national and international recognition for her etchings. Her work is now shown in galleries throughout the United States; as well as at galleries in The United Kingdom and South Africa.

Hal La Croix of the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript said "Carol's work is refreshingly devoid of self-conscious artistic pretense. Her elaborate lines portray Victorians and other foppish folk that have a warmth and spirit which forms coy statements on social conventions."

Lummus is a graduate of the Walnut Hill School of the Performing Arts, and Colby Sawyer College. She attended the Massachusetts College of Art, and the University Of Geneva (Switzerland) She studied with William Holst, and Hannes Beckmann, Hanover, NH. Lummus' work, including two new pieces, will be on display at The Craft Gallery from March 1st through March 31st, 2009. Her work is available for purchase at the Fine Craft Gallery throughout the year.

The Sharon Arts Fine Craft Gallery is located in Depot Square in Downtown Peterborough. Store hours are: Monday - Thursday 10am to 6pm, Friday 10am to 7pm, Saturday 10am to 6pm, Sundays 11 - 4 PM, and First Fridays 10am to 8pm (first Friday of each month).
